The preschool classrooms are divided into
different sections based on the types of materials placed in each area.
- BLOCK CENTER: In the
block centers there are materials for children to build and explore with.
There are vehicles, figurines and other tools to enhance and expand the
building experience. In the block centers, some of the many skills the
children will learn, will be to match objects in a one-to-one
correspondence; develop hand-eye coordination; put objects in order; develop
mapping skills; develop classification skills; differentiate size and shape
and recognize relationships; think, create, and implement plans; and develop
respect for the work of others.
- DRAMATIC PLAY: This center
provides a variety of costumes, kitchen supplies, tools, and unique items
that will encourage children to be imaginative, while imitating and
pretending. This will give children the opportunity to: rehearse
knowledge that they have learned about a particular role in society, such as
a firefighter; expand their creativity; develop social skills; enhance
literacy; and build self-esteem.
- READING CENTER: Designed to
provide a quiet and comfortable place for a child to sit and read, the
reading center offers a large selection of children's novels, varying in
length and obscurity.
- TABLE TOYS: These toys,
usually relating directly to a particular math or literacy concept, are
designed to keep children actively engaged while working at a table.
These games can include: puzzles, board games, patterning activities,
beading, matching, etc.
